“Feminism” is a frequently mentioned word in Chinese society today. However, with its extensive use, it has produced “cynical feminism” and “radical feminism” that have yielded countless ridicules. The prevalence of consumerism is undoubtedly a big push for this false feminism, which seems to be self-improvement and self-reliance but “I am supreme”. It is respectable that true feminism advocates the maintenance of women’s fundamental rights, opposes gender discrimination, emancipates female thoughts, and contributes to a harmonious society where men and women have equal rights. However, under the consumerism, “you pay for me”, “it is natural for men earn money to support their families” and other phenomena of equal rights but unequal responsibilities are deplorable. Feminism was meant to be matched by achievements and status with the warmth of the individual and the dignity of independence.
